Cosmetic surgery

Facial cosmetic surgery is generally performed to correct physical malformations due to aging, disease, injury or birth defects. Advances in medical devices and biomaterials has transformed the world of facial cosmetic surgery and broadened the range of procedures available. Some facial cosmetic surgery is purely aesthetic, while other procedures may be taken to correct the impact of injury or serious malformation.

Diagnosis

The surgical expertise and thorough understanding of the aesthetics and function of the mouth, teeth, jaws and face allow an OMF surgeon to assess whether cosmetic facial surgery is appropriate for you. Your surgeon is uniquely qualified to perform facial cosmetic procedures involving the mouth, teeth, jaws and face.

Care

Much cosmetic surgery is minimally invasive and can be performed in an office setting using local and/or intravenous anesthesia. Other procedures may require day surgery in an outpatient clinic or hospitalization.

Common procedures include cheekbone implants (malar augmentation), chin surgery (genioplasty) to either lengthen or reduce the chin, ear surgery (otoplasty) to set ears back or reduce their size, facelift (rhytidecomy), lip enhancement and nasal reconstruction.

There is also a broad range of skin treatments using injections, laser technology and/or chemical applications.

Facial cosmetic surgery may refine, enhance or rejuvenate your existing features, but it will not give you a new face. The options are very broad, talk to an OMF surgeon to learn more about the procedures that may be right for you.
